One of Norway’s leading saxophonists, Froy Aagre plays tenor and soprano saxophone with an individual sound that builds on such key influences as Dave Liebman and Wayne Shorter. Having studied in Oslo and Birmingham, Froy released her first album in 2004, and attracted notice throughout Europe, and soon found herself invited to perform at major festivals in Europe, North America and India. Her latest album, Cycle Of Silence, was released on ACT in 2010.
Froy met the members of Brisbane band Misinterprotato (now known as Trichotomy) while studying at the Banff Jazz Workshop in Canada, in 2005. That led to her touring with that trio, including an appearance at Wangaratta Jazz, in 2009. For this tour, Froy will present her new Electric repertoire, joined by two members of Trichotomy, Sean Foran (electric piano) and John Parker (drums).
Froy says, “The new trio fuses new electronic sounds into melodic, groove-based jazz. It is all about communicating our joy of music to the audience. To create an electric atmosphere both on stage and with the audience. The music can be described as electronic/melodic/electric jazz, full of surprises”.
“Aagre’s sound is gorgeous, pure, rounded, expressive and, like her writing, full of that very Scandinavian blend of melancholy and celebration” – ‘Irish Times’
“There is a wonderful musical symmetry and cohesion to (Aagre’s) playing….which has a great story-telling quality.” – ‘Jazz Wise’ (UK)
